BW Converting accelerates converters’ sustainability ambitions with its high-performance technologies at Tissue Summit Brazil

Jose Carlos Avila to present how machine intelligence and technology transform real-world manufacturing environments

Green Bay, Wisconsin -- March 4, 2024 -- With high pulp costs and scarcity of operator talent, Brazilian tissue converters are on a quest to boost capacity, reduce costs and simplify operations.  BW Converting Solution’s Hygiene division will present its suite of next-level technologies at Tissue Summit Brazil that harness the power of automation to operate more efficiently and cost effectively, with a reduced environmental footprint.

The event, which unites major players in Brazil’s tissue and personal care market takes place March 5-6 at the Tivoli Mofarrej Hotel in São Paulo. This year’s focus is on “Data Intelligence and Sustainability.”

“This theme completely encompasses our work, who we are and what we do -- from converting technology, to the end of the packaging line, to embossing rollers -- in order to always respond effectively and directly to customer requests and to a continuously evolving market while respecting the environment and sustainability," said Gino Santi, PCMC Tissue Converting Sales Director Americas.

On March 6 at 11:00 a.m., join José Carlos Avila, BW Converting Hygiene Division’s Regional Sales Manager for Latin America, in the Conference Room for a session titled “Converting and Packaging Sustainability through Accelerate Data Services.”  He will discuss how to apply machine intelligence and technology to real-world manufacturing environments, and detail BW Converting Solutions’ Accelerate program that brings the promise of Industry 4.0 to life.

Accelerate combines data analytics, machine learning, and on-demand expert guidance so producers can continuously improve productivity. It helps them maximize uptime, boost equipment efficiency, and uncover problems before costly downtime occurs.

“Going beyond basic service support, Accelerate leverages cutting-edge technologies with human expertise to optimize customer operation,” Avila said.

The BW Converting Solutions Hygiene Division comprises PCMC, W+D, STAX and Northern Engraving. Its global capabilities, under a consolidated approach, are integrated to bring an accelerated customer-centric focus to product development, service and support through its global infrastructure of design engineers, market specialists, and customer service experts.

BW Converting Solutions’ cutting-edge technologies include Paragon, developed by PCMC -- a revolutionary rewinding system featuring motorized inserts (center drives) and a pivoting winding belt underneath the product. It offers exceptional log control and support from start to finish as well as excellent caliper retention.

PCMC’s coreless winding Invisible-O converting technology allows rewinding of high- and low-firmness rolls, for both consumer and away-from-home products. Converters can quickly and easily switch between core and no-core production by filling the hopper with cores or mandrels, and if necessary, changing the transfer glue. The rewinder will have the same accessibility and ease of operation and require similar operator skills.

Paragon and Invisible-O technology combine to create the ultimate sustainable product: No-Core.

Developed by STAX, the new Diversa introduces unrivaled flexibility and efficiency in secondary packaging. Diversa merges a high-speed bundler and a case packer into one powerhouse solution. A simple adjustment transforms the case packer into a bundler and vice versa, delivering almost double the machine capacity with speeds of more than 25 cases per minute.

Also in the spotlight at Tissue Summit Brazil will be Embox, a one-of-a-kind tool developed by Northern Engraving that represents the latest in game-changing digital tissue paper roll designing. The customer experience is guided by an innovative, reliable technical algorithm, based on the database of engraving patterns developed over the company's more than 85-year history. The customer can therefore configure a specific product starting from a few significant input data.
